MessageLabs taken out of play by Symantec

News this morning that Symantec has acquired MessageLabs which means one less brand in the competitive security SaaS space and more clients for Cleartext, those not wanting to buy Symantec. So this gives Symantec an interesting mix with the recent acquisition of PC Tools.

If you put PC Tools Threat Expert (which came out of Cleartext’s Threat Forensics service, which itself came partly out of R&D at Symantec, there lies another story…) together with a good Managed Security Service (MessageLabs) then you have a very powerful near real time SaaS security service that can handle old and critically, new malicious code threats.

It’s interesting that when chatting to a MessageLabs/Symantec contact recently they commented on the title of this article, it seems some think it’s a fairly accurate statement!
